Twilight

Look On Look On

Featuring: Bella/Edward
Text: W.H. Auden - Calypso
This piece centers around their passion and attraction for each other. Their love is forbidden and complicated - in the words of Angel "Human -Vampire, Woman - Man...pire". I put them far apart because in the first book Edward really tries to not get involved with her. I wanted the piece to be dominated by darkness because theirs is not a fluffy-puppy love. However, I also wanted to show the extreme bliss they experience when they're together. They're whole. In the center of the light you can see a kissing couple because the light represents them coming together.

The two white birds above Edwards head is a bit of a joke actually. I put them there to show how his reason "fly away". I blame it all on lack of sleep...

Shattered Shattered

Featuring: Alice Cullen
Text: Coldplay - Help Is Round The Corner
I've always wanted to art Alice's background history with the asylum and the pain that lies there. Asylums freak me out! I wanted to show the fear and helplessness Alice must've felt while in there. Considering it was so dark she doesn't even remember it I'm guessing it was pretty gruesome to be there. I wanted the larger part of the piece to be of the awfulness of the asylum. For this I used photographs that my pal took at Alcatraz and photographs I took at a German concentration camp last summer. I also used some caps from the SN episode "Asylum". When I think of asylums I always think of straitjackets - for me they go hand in hand. Therefore, I felt I had to stock one in there. Do you know how many sick people are out there? I found a web-site dedicated to them - as in "tips on how to get them on", "where you buy them" etc. Creepy... Now, the open door with light spilling in to the right is representative for her way out of the darkness. I tried to make her look bruised but a lot of the effect went away with the gradients...

Oh, and the hair! Some are probably wondering why I left it like that seeing as I'm an Alice-hair-freak and always nag people who don't make it Alice-like. I was basically thinking that spiky/pixie-hair=happy fun Alice and flat/boring-hair=sad crazy human Alice. So that's why.

My Secret My Secret

Featuring: Edward/Bella
Text: Anna Ternheim - My Secret
Originally I was making the piece dark and brooding. Because B/E are kind of that sort of couple. Also, I was extremely inspired by a piece by Anna's latest piece. Then, right when I was just about done with it, I wanted to see what would happen if I made it with a white backdrop. So I did - and I came to like it more because the lyrics really aren't very sad or depressing but rather hopeful.

Now the statue was fun to work with. I was in Copenhagen this summer and my photography crazy pal (long story...) took loads and loads of pictures when we where at "Glyptoteket" (no idea what it's called in English) where they have statues from ancient Greece, Rome and then from the French 1700s, which I think is where this statue is from. Anyway, I think the statue is perfect because you can't see if the man is kissing or biting the woman's neck!

Lust Lust

Featuring: Edward/Bella
Text: Alice Cooper - Poison
I was re-watching the film the other day and it just hit me how incredibly beautiful the film is. It's just full of beautiful frame after beautiful frame - how could I be anything but inspired to art?

I tried to focus on Bella's lust for Edward and her lust for becoming a vampire. I used sensual images of Edward leaning over her neck to catch that mood of lustfulness. In addition, I used warm (hopefully quite vibrant) colours such as red and green to bring about the lustful feeling. At least I think that lust is a warm passionate feeling.

Bella/Edward The Thought of You

Featuring: Bella/Edward
Text: Nat King Cole - Unforgettable
So I found this image when I was searching google. And it made me think of a photograph of Julianne Moore that I just love. At first I was going to use Julianne Moore herself and just make something out of that. Then I had a strange idea... Well, not strange perhaps, but an idea non the less! The whole idea of a naked exposed woman in the dark made me think of Edward and Bella - how exposed she is to him when he stalks her in her sleep! So I decided to manip Bella's face onto Moore's (which was no easy feat and I'm still not sure how I feel about the result). At first I was going to have stalker-Edward in the background - creepily watching her. Then - as I was searching my images of Edward the stalker - I found the image where he's bent over Bella in the woods. Having Edward bent over Bella, actually touching her, made the piece much sexier (in my opinion) and not a little more creepy!

As for the technical stuff... Well, obviously I manipulated Bella's face onto Moore's. However, I also drew eyelids on her - an awake Bella would sort of ruin the entire concept I wanted an old photograph type feel to it, so I added cracks at the edges and went for a redish sepia colour.

Edward/Carlisle Untitled #1

Featuring: Edward/Carlisle
Text: N/A
This piece illustrates when Carlisle turns Edward into a vampire. For those unfamiliar few, Carlisle is more or less a moral compass - although he's a vampire he's never taken a human life (ergo, never drunk human blood). But he's very lonely, so he decides to make a companion. Edward is dying of the Spanish Influenza (the Swine Flu of the 1900s ) parents already gone, so Carlisle knows no-one will "miss" him, and his life is ending either way. He's still very hesitant towards "damning" another person.

I love this little scene in the movie, both Facinelli (Carlisle) and Pattinson's (Edward) facial expressions are spot on! The conflict of Carlisle before (middle) and his anguish after when he's seeing the pain (left and right) Edward experience as he goes through the process (right). I did my best to accentuate what was already there in form of dark and gritty texturing and colouring. I also wanted a sort of sporadic and disoriented feel to the composition, because I think that this is really one of those moments when there really is no reason or rhyme, not to Edward or Carlisle...

Edward/Bella Vampyr

Featuring: Edward (and Bella)
Text: Markus Krunegård - Jag Är En Vampyr
The text is from a Swedish song (in Swedish) that is just. Random. So extremely random. But good, very good! Anyway, the chorus goes something like this:
I am a vampire, I suck and hurl
I wanna come in, I wanna be yours
It sounds better in Swedish (rhymes), ah well... Putting in Edward-context it becomes funny, especially the first line considering the film and Pattinson's awesome facial-expressions where he seriously looks sick. So I used those caps and a cap from the "kiss-montage" to sort of make it look like he hurls if he drinks because he's such a sucky (no pun intended) vampire.
