Text: My own
When I started this piece I wasn't really planning on working on it for a whole day... I usually don't. Then, I got the sudden urge to use my graphics tablet. Then I decided that I'd do everything by hand - ergo not use any photo shop effects but actually draw the outlines etc. I'm happy I did because this way I got to decide so much more for myself which shadows to keep/not to keep. I also had my brother behind me (sitting at his own computer) back-seat driving, telling me his eyes looked off or that I should change this or that. Then (because it was about 2 a.m. and both of us had gotten to the place of weird humour) he made me try to give him blond hair, and red eyes - then green eyes etc. It ended in a much more Warhol-type piece than what I'd planned. The text is my own but inspired from a Spider man magazine when he talks about Gwen Stacy.

Rule the World Rule the World

Featuring: Jonathan Rhys Mayers
Text: Coldplay - Viva La Vida
I wanted to focus on the symbolism of the song - because I love the lyrics so much. In the first piece I have the main part "inside" the world - which it's clear JRM is the ruler of. He's sitting confident on a throne looking you right in the eye - and holding the Key. Furthermore, I added great waves in the background - the uncontrollable of all elements - the sea - which he rules. The dices shows that he's in charge of the game, he's the puppet master, he's Caesar. Up in the right corner shines a sun. The most ancient symbol for life, power and masculinity. Lastly, I chose blue as the main colour scheme. This is because blue is by (European) tradition a royal colour (the pigment was very expensive therefore only rich people could afford blue, purple and to some extent red, clothes). Basically this entire piece is supposed to show power, control and royalty.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers I Used To

Featuring: Jonathan Rhys Mayers
Text: Coldplay - Viva La Vida
As for this piece I wanted to show how everything in the first piece is destroyed. The mountain in the background with snow blowing away represents the impossible happening - mountains do not fall just like he was not supposed to. The red moon is supposed to be an extinguished sun - again a reference to his down fall. Right behind him is a shattered window looking back to what he's lost - the key, the seas, the dices, a locked door which hides the light (all that is good) and most importantly, the world. To further emphasise the king versus the downfall I used the same part of the lyrics - the first where the text sound confident and almost cocky when read with the picture. The second where despair reeks from every word...

Robert Pattinson All Alone

Featuring: Robert Pattinson
Text: Volbeat - A Broken man and the Dawn
This piece really has nothing to do with Robert Pattinson, two of his Vanity Fair pictures seemed to fit the general mood I was after. I made it for Line's challenge at BF about Danish music. This piece is very Denmark for me. Although it's only very visible if you're, well...me! Beaches are something I strongly associate with Denmark - long white beaches with driftwood and long grass at the outer edges, a wall of green protecting the serene coastline from the rest of the world. In my head, it's a light place (go figure since I'm only ever there during summertime!). I tried to transmit that feeling of fresh and light clarity in this piece.

The Denmark doesn't stop there however. You see, I have a friend who loves photography. And I took her with me to Denmark two years back - and she took some really lovely pictures. I chose to only use pictures she took on that trip with me (in Denmark) as stocks for this piece - so really, in a way - it's set in Jylland.

I wanted to give the feeling of a beach (I'm tiring of that word) which is why I put a stock of water and beach(!) right behind him. And framing it with that kind of sun-bleached wood you only ever find near a coast. Then I also wanted to accentuate his loneliness by putting a stock of a long railway behind him as well - sort of to show that he's been all alone the entire time, and he still is. (Really joyful message this piece has...)

Robert Pattinson Cigarettes & Alcohol

Featuring: Robert Pattinson
Text: Oasis - Cigarettes and Alcohol
Here I turned to the man for inspiration - and no, I don't mean Robert Pattinson in this case, but Andy Warhol. Now, my initial idea was to do a Marilyn, but that's been done over and over and over and over again. Instead, I took inspiration from two other pieces - a self portrait of Warhol hismelf and his famous banana cover for Velvet Underground.

My initial idea was to just do the first one (Andy) but then I was like: "hmm... this isn't enough, I need something more" and thought of the banana. Now, fruit isn't exactly what I associate with Pattinson... And then this song pops into my head "and all I need are cigarettes and alcohol" - now that's more like it! Of course I picked Corona as my alcohol: 1) He drinks it in the VF-shoot 2) it's my favourite beer [actually, that's probably reason number 1,2,3,4 and 5] 3) It's got a very distinctive look and therefore works with the pop-art etc.

Robert Pattinson Untitled #3

Featuring: Robert Pattinson
Text: N/A
I really love pop art and graphic novels. I love the simplistic style that often captures so much more with their few lines and "simple" colouring than many more complicated-seeming pieces of art do. Since graphic novels are so much about expressing a story with pictures more than words - the word aiding the pictures rather than the opposite - I wanted to make a piece of art in pop art-style without any text. I wanted to get to the annoyance in Pattinson's look. A look so bored and annoyed it borderlines on irony. You can see him thinking "I'm hungover and you woke me up for no good reason." (A feeling I can relate to very much this morning...) He's simply Not Amused.

Joseph Gordon Levitt Black Balloon

Featuring: Joseph Gordon Levitt
Text: The Kills - Black Balloon
I was sitting on the tube the other day and one of my favourite The Kills songs came on 'Black Balloon'. I just got this image in my head of the overwhelming sense of freedom and happiness that follows letting go of something/someone that drags you down. The song itself is not bright anywhere; but the way I listen to it it contains the first light at the end of a long dark tunnel. I wanted to exaggerate that in this piece. It's not about someone special, I think that I mostly wanted to illustrate the feeling in general, rather than something specific from a film or tv show. Letting go is what this piece is all about for me.

Robert Pattinson Charming Man

Featuring: Robert Pattinson
Text: The Smiths - Robert Pattinson
People have very different opinions about what 'beauty' is. I personally think Robert Pattinson is beautiful - ironically I find him almost ugly when he plays Edward Cullen in Twilight. The beard, the hair, the eyebrows all over the place, the hungover eyes, the cigarettes, the clothes. I wanted something sharp. I've grown a bit tired of overly airbrushed, smooth faces. People don't look perfect, people aren't 'heavenly beings' in that sense. People are beautiful because of flaws and particularities. (Probably the reason why I don't particularly find him attractive as Cullen...)

Robert Pattinson Enslaved

Featuring: Robert Pattinson
Text: Oskar Linnros - Kaffe & Cigg
Albeit, this is a piece featuring Pattinson he's not the main focus here. That horrible, disgusting yet oh so great and wonderful thing he has in his mouth is. See, I've become a bit of a smoker. I hate it, I feel awful about it - especially when I smoke around non-smokers. But I love it. It's relaxing, nice and it tastes so great with coffee...
